9 Ways to keep yourself motivated

You must tell yourself, "No matter how hard it is, or how hard it gets, I'm going to make it." by Les Brown.

Motivation is self-driven. Motivation is a privilege that many of us run out of very quickly. It is really hard to keep yourself motivated 24x7 despite your day-to-day situations. If we have one sure thing in life, it is the fact that obstacles are an unwanted guest in all our lives. I wanted to share with you guys a few ways I keep myself motivated on a daily basis and keep my goals on track and get things done and succeed in life.

Below are 9 ways to keep yourself motivated

Design and define your goals

Having clear goals plays a key role in keeping yourself motivated. Having a clear bigger picture about your goals and aspirations helps you stay focussed and gives you a plan of action to proceed further in life and make your way to success.

Set realistic goals about your life, your financial aspirations, your personal relationship goals, your career path and focus on them. Setting up goals gives you a clear path of travel and lessens panic and the feeling of being lost.

The moment you start feeling lost in life, you will feel demotivated to do anything. Fighting demotivation is also equally important. Always visualize your success.

Choose goals that interest you

Always keep your goals in line with your interest and things that keep your mind occupied willingly. Doing things that others force on you or getting influenced by people and letting them influence your goals to meet their interests, kills your chance of success and you will end up regretting your choices.

Always choose goals that match your interest. This will keep you more focused and more intentional about how you choose to spend your day. If you love what you do and it brings you true joy, you're more likely to do that wholeheartedly and succeed.

Do not compromise on your goals and interests to please someone else. You will be wasting your time, your energy, your resources, and your mind space on something that doesn't get your motor running.

Avoid multitasking

People always tend to add "Multitasking" as a special skill in their resumes while applying for a job. The fact is human beings cannot multi-task.

We cannot concentrate on multiple tasks at the same time. We however can perform multiple tasks that do not require 100% concentration levels.

Say for example you listen to music or podcasts while working, you can perform your day-to-day task and also concentrate and consume information through podcasts, audiobooks. One activity has to be a dormant one, that requires very minimum effort, and the other task that utilizes the intellectual part of your brain.

By nature we are not designed to multi-task, so try to avoid doing this, this will only lead to you performing various tasks at a mediocre level. You will not be able to give your 100%.

Instead do one task at a time, tackle, and focus on one goal at a time. This will help ease up the mental clutter inside your head and give you more energy to stay focused on your goals.

Break down your goals into small tasks

We all dream big by default. Most of our dreams and aspirations are very vague. Breaking down these goals and dreams will make them appear more achievable and realistic.

Breaking big goals into smaller doable tasks that can be performed on a day-to-day basis helps you see progress firsthand and gives you a sense of accomplishment that keeps your motivation in check.

Always take one step at a time, one day at a time and even the mountainous goals appear to be small steps.

Find a reward system that works for you

We all need a little pick-me-up when it comes to making our journey towards our goals.

Whenever you complete a part of your task, you treat yourself to something, this is how a reward system works.

Say your goal was to walk for an hour every day for a month. In order to keep yourself motivated, you could add listening to your favorite music while walking as a reward system or it could be wearing your favorite shoes.

The reward here is listening to music or getting to put on your favorite shoes that make you look great, in order to experience the reward you motivate yourself to go for a walk every day in order to enjoy your reward.

Make the journey towards your goals more enjoyable by adding a reward system that works for you and suits your interests and needs. Treat Yourself!!

Use the power of deadlines

I personally feel that having a deadline is a solution for procrastination.

Setting clear deadlines for your goals and day-to-day tasks, help you be more conscious about how you spend and consume your time.

It also helps in prioritizing important tasks and getting things done in a more efficient manner.

Deadlines make goals more realistic and make working towards them easier. They help in planning your work and motivate you to move forward in the right direction. Deadlines also provide a sense of accomplishment and gratification upon completion of tasks and meeting important goal-oriented deadlines.

Get organized

Organization is a life skill. It helps you declutter your mind, your space, your thoughts, and your goals. Having things sorted helps in clearing the clutter and chaos around your that would cause distractions and get you off track from achieving your goals.

Being organized heightens your motivations and makes the process of achieving your goals more enjoyable and memorable. Once you have things organized, your path to success becomes more evident and more clear, in turn motivating you more.

Keep it positive, remain optimistic

Providing yourself with positive affirmations is an important habit that will keep you motivated towards life when things become hard and difficult.

In the face of failure, it is easy to fill our heads with negative self-talk and pull ourselves down. You will spiral down into your pity party and feel like you're unworthy of any success and happiness in life.

It is at times like this, that the habit of positive affirmations and a positive attitude towards life, keeps you motivated and takes you further in your journey of life despite the obstacles in your way.

Always try to put a positive spin on things and remain optimistic in tough situations. Always remember that everything will pass. You will move towards success and achieve great things in life.

Always choose success over instant gratification

Without the number of distractions in our world right now, it is very easy to get lost in the world of social media and entertainment and lose track of your goals.

In order to get a dopamine hit, people often prioritize doing fun & immediate things that give short-term success and happiness and tend to forget their long-term goals.

We are so addicted to instant gratification, that we often lose our way in life and give up on our goals. Always choose your long-term goals and success over getting a dopamine hit over things that give your instant gratification. Learn to make good choices and stick to your goals and never lose sight of the bigger picture.

These are a few ways to keep yourself motivated.
